The Person: The successful candidate will have the following behaviors and demonstrate the competencies below.

Position Summary: In this position, the Terminal Manager will oversee all stevedoring operations for the loading and discharging of a variety of cargo types such as bulk, breakbulk, liquid bulk, and project cargo. In addition, will serve as a liaison between the agency and terminal operations departments in order to ensure flawless customer service. The Terminal Manager will be directly responsible for executing the safety program and ensuring compliance with all SOPs.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Accountable for all aspects of safe, reliable and responsible terminal operations
  • Communicate, monitor and administer compliance with all safety, operating, environmental and business procedures/standards, policies and management directives
  • Supervise superintendents and enforce their compliance with all applicable Terminal Operations, procedures/standards and policies
  • Work with Federal, State and Local officials in a professional manner to ensure Terminal compliance with all applicable procedures and laws pertaining to Terminal operations
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relations by understanding customer needs, contract terms and conditions, developing and implementing plans to address needs
  • Work with other Host managers and Commercial team on projects related to Terminal Operations and business growth strategies
  • Weekly teleconferences with headquarters
  • Establish and grow new relationships constantly
  • Strengthen local ties to further sustainable growth of business and to increase market share and profitability
  • Work to develop and strengthen staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Set operational goals and objectives for terminal operations
  • Ensure Host Terminals Health and Safety program is integrated with operations and customer specific H&S programs
  • Ensure security guidelines, plans are followed
  • Ensure human resource policies and issues are consistently applied within company expectations
  • Develop and track KPI (key performance indicators) at facility

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferable and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in marine terminal management
  • Minimum 5 years’ manufacturing or marine terminal management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing or oversight responsibility of safety programs.
  • Ability to handle issues quickly, safely and effectively in a stressful operating environment
  • Self- starter with strong leadership, communications, analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Superb organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to create and implement efficient organizational systems
  • Willingness to learn through “hands on” training which may be physical at times
  • Flexible team player with an opportunistic mindset
  • Valid driver’s license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in most weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at times
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather
  • Shift work which may require early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
