Streets & Drainage Equipment Operator – Huntsville, TX

Job Description

The objective of the Streets and Drainage Equipment Operator is to assist in maintenance projects of the Street Division. Job Responsibilities

The duties described below are indicative of what the Street Services Equipment Operator may be asked to perform; duties may be changed with or without notice.

~ Ensures that all roadways are clean and in good repair through a planned schedule of maintenance.

~ Ensures that all work orders, reports and other paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

~ Assists citizens when out in the public by providing roadside assistance, answering questions and explaining the responsibilities of the department.

~ Assists co-workers in the safe handling of equipment and other duties as appropriate.

~ Responsible for supervising employees, when assigned.

~ Performs routine and preventative maintenance on City equipment.

~ Performs traffic control, flagging, directing of traffic in a safe, responsible manner, ensuring the safety of self, co-workers and the public.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

REQUIRED

~ High School Diploma or equivalent.

~ Acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED

~ Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.

~ Minimum of two (2) years of experience in traffic control techniques.

~ Minimum of three (3) years of experience in concrete and road construction.

~ Valid Texas Class “B” CDL.

Please note, that if hired without a TX Class “B” CDL, then it must be obtained within the following timeframe:

~ Class “B” CDL (if hired without, must be obtained within the first six months of employment).

SKILLS & ABILITIES

~ Must be available to work on an “on call” schedule when assigned.

~ Ability to maintain a professional manner when dealing with the public and staff.

~ Ability to comprehend, retain and apply City and State policies and legislation, i.e. City ordinances, policy and procedures manuals, etc.

~ Ability to act in a supervisory role when assigned the position of Street Services Equipment Operator.

~ Ability to operate various types of equipment including chain saws, mowers, weed eaters, heavy duty trucks, etc.

~ Ability to accept and carry out assigned duties.

REASONING ABILITIES

~ Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public.

~ Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.

~ Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations.

~ Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

~ Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.

~ Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.

~ Ability to read City policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; MSDS sheets, safety manuals, traffic signs and warning labels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

~ Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

~ The duties of this job may include physical activities such as balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking pushing, pulling, lifting grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, bending/twisting and performing repetitive motions.

~ The duties of this job require lifting of heavy objects weighing approximately 100 lbs.

~ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
