What you’ll do:
- Responsible for the operation/maintenance/repair of high pressure steam (above 15 pounds pressure) heating plant which may include electrical production, or of a high pressure, high temperature water (above 160 pounds pressure or 250 degrees Fahrenheit) heating plant on an assigned shift; supervision may be exercised over a Boiler Operator and/or other semi-skilled and unskilled helpers through periodic checks of boiler room operations; work performed according to established methods/procedures; work subject to direction and review by the Plant Maintenance Engineer; performs other related work as assigned
- Maintains/tests/operates diesel generators for emergency electric power production; starts, brings to proper speed, synchronizes and puts loads on generators; takes load off and shuts down generators
- Makes minor adjustments/repairs to electrical generators, high pressure steam or high pressure, high temperature water boilers, pumps, refrigeration systems, and related plumbing equipment; assists in major repair work of this equipment; fires boilers and operates related auxiliary equipment as necessary.
- Monitors instruments/meters/other controls to ensure production and voltages are being maintained in accordance with instructions. Starts, brings to proper speed, synchronizes and puts loads on generators; takes load off and shuts down generators. Performs other related work as assigned.
All you need for success:
Four or more years of experience in the operation, maintenance or repair of high pressure steam, steam-electric, or high pressure, high temperature water plant equipment; of which at least two years must have been at the level of Boiler Operator or Power Plant Mechanic; completion of the eighth school grade.
2 – 4 years of skilled experience in the trade area.
