Role Overview

In this role, as part of the Digital Technology Manufacturing and Shop Floor team, the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) Integration Specialist will be instrumental in the design and development of the next generation Industry 4.0 solutions for Collins Aerospace. This individual must possess a combination of technical and business skills to define use cases and requirements, execute proof of concepts, and design and optimize production solutions that deliver value to our manufacturing facilities. The position will be instrumental in the implementation of automation integration, interfaces related to Data Collection, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and machine to machine communication, among others. The targeted solutions will involve a variety of automation systems including integration of robotics, controls systems, vision systems, sensing technologies, and process development and optimization. This position will be based in Charlotte, NC and will report to the Digital Technology Connected Factory Director.

Essential Responsibilities

In this role you will:
Develop and implement IIoT related solutions by combining edge device, compute, storage, networking, software and services

Deliver Proof of Concepts and end-to-end full lifecycle IIoT solutions

Program solutions that lead virtual teams to drive results


Hands on experience implementing IIoT, Industry 4.0 strategies related to machine integration including data collection, analytics, machine learning, statistical analysis, etc.

Experience with IoT infrastructure and technologies, including but not limited to, such protocols as MQTT and AMQP; sensor hardware such as industrial PCs, SCADA systems (e.g. Wonderware), PLCs, and, IoT gateways from such suppliers as Kepware.

Experience with IIoT platforms such as PTC Thingworx, Microsoft Azure IoT, Amazon AWS IoT, SAP Leonardo

Experience with factory automation, software implementation, instrumentation and data acquisition analysis in a high volume operation

Understanding of IIoT use cases in a manufacturing environment such as machine communication, predictive maintenance, product quality monitoring, worker safety monitoring, etc.

Experience with traditional manufacturing execution systems such as Wonderware, Solumina, Apriso, etc.

Experience with key manufacturing modules and data in SAP ERP systems (e.g. ECC, S/4HANA,)

Experience with relational databases like Microsoft SQL

“Nice to Have” Qualifications (i.e. desired) (optional)

6+ years of experience in information technology, manufacturing, and/or engineering experience desirable

Knowledge of dynamic server coding environments such as Python, Ruby, or Node JS

PLC / PC Based programming languages experience

Working knowledge of HTTP, HTML5, JavaScript, JSON, etc.

Concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, and collaboration with 3rd parties on controls solution system build and integration testing

Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple ambiguous projects at the same time with a moderate degree of variation and uncertainty.

Ability to travel to interact with internal and external business and technical partners

Working Environment

Travel required, up to 20%

Willingness to work nonstandard hours

Flexible working arrangements available

A portion of time will be spent on a shop floor (with loud machines, hot/cold temperatures, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required. Relevant degrees: Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Engineering or equivalent
