As a Software Quality Engineer you will work as individual contributor in various incubation projects. This is a team which transforms research ideas into products that will be taken to market to make a meaningful difference for Cisco and the industry. Specifically, you will:
Assure quality in our best-in-class software for cloud native products/solutions
Work closely with domain specialists, developers, and customers to understand the solution required and provide test and test automation to assure prototypes or minimally viable products meet specifications.
Engage in early field trials with customers, helping to educate the customer about the project and bringing back customer input and ideas into the team – and into the test automation.
Full stack test responsibilities possible depending on the project, starting with backend integration and system test, and moving on to UI test when UI becomes available.
Partner with business units to transition products/solutions, ensuring test automation can be picked up and maintained by business units. Who You'll Work With
The Emerging Technologies and Incubation (ET&I) team is a highly visible group which reports directly to Cisco’s CEO. ET&I focuses on the next wave of innovation by anticipating, investing in, and incubating new technologies and business ventures.
You will be part of the Incubation team in the US, to develop new solutions, and bring them to market in a startup like environment.
Who You Are
Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent work experience and 5+ years of related work experience
You consider yourself an engineer or a technologist rather than a developer; you can write code, but coding itself is not the end-all to you. Instead you are interested in the overall solution and understanding what it brings to customers. You’d like to build the solution and see how it works and how it breaks. How it could be improved.
Quality is always in your mind when evaluating a product or solution, but you are also flexible, realizing that different stages of a solution require different levels of excellence.
You take strong ownership of your work and are committed to building successful products.
You enjoy working in a team; learning from others and sharing your own knowledge.
You have no problem landing in a chaotic situation and finding your way around. You seek down the people or resources you need to start crafting order.
You have outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. You can discuss issues with the solution in a manner that does not offend the other people working on it. Other people enjoy working with you.
You’re a hardworking engineer with strong coding skills – preferred languages Python or Go Desired Skills
Knowledge of CI/CD, release management, test driven development, and lean/agile development methodologies like Scrum/Kanban and DevOps
Experience with Open Source, full stack development in Linux Why Cisco
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.
We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!
But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
