Restricted part-time/hourly position without state benefits. Funds to support this position have been designated through December 2021. Wage employees are restricted to working approximately 29 hours per week, not to exceed 1,500 hours annually.
The Re-Employing Virginia (REV) Coach is responsible for connecting with and assisting individuals who inquire about the REV program to support their enrollment and enhance their success in college. The REV Coach will play a key role in bringing new students into career programs and providing them with the opportunity to achieve their goals. The REV Coach will serve as a recruiter, advisor and guide in the journeys of our prospective student learners. REV Coaches will assist interested individuals by providing guidance for enrolling in academic or workforce training programs, applying for financial aid and scholarships, identifying academic and non-academic needs and connecting those individuals to resources in a supportive and professional manner. This position will communicate with students on a regular basis and engage them individually and/or in small groups; and communicate with student services personnel to ensure that students have access to college resources and support that will lead to completion of their academic or workforce program. The REV Coaches will also capture appropriate data on outreach, student communications, and other interactions.
Considerable working knowledge of and experience in providing exceptional customer service to include appointment setting, interviewing, relationship building, and client services. Working knowledge of program and event coordination. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Google docs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team; and to analyze and interpret data. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with multi-cultural populations that support diversity, cultural understanding and inclusion. An associate’s degree is required. Selected candidate must be able to pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
A degree in a related field, such as counseling, human resources, social services, or adult education is preferred. Work experience in a community college setting or in counseling or academic and/or career coaching is preferred. Successful experience in sales, marketing, public relations, recruitment or other related fields. Knowledge of Virginia Community College System (VCCS) academic and workforce programs; and knowledge of available financial aid and scholarship information. Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success is also preferred.
