TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems. The R&D/Product Development Technician will:

  • Perform Microsection (cross section) and Digital Microscopy on TE products in support of Engineering Evaluation and Qualification
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings or sketches to determine desired region of interest
  • Prepare samples using hand tools, band saw, grinding wheels and similar equipment
  • Obtain dimensional data using a variety of measurement equipment such as toolmaker’s scope, calipers, optical measurement systems and similar devices
  • Using Microsoft Office, summarize data and develop test data package documentation
  • Manage incoming section requests – scheduling, prioritizing and estimating
  • Engage in departmental continuous improvement, safety and process ownership responsibilities including, but not limited to, the development of BKM, JSA and SW documentation
  • Develop consumable/supplies purchase requisitions as needed
  • Must be willing to cross train in other areas of the laboratory as business needs demand
  • Must have the ability to bend, stand, and grasp small objects for periods of time
  • Other duties as required

What your background should look like:

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 3-5 years’ in a testing environment preferred
  • Previous experience with Microsectioning a plus
  • Must be highly focused and detail oriented with a high level of precision
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with shop equipment preferred, machining a plus
  • Comfortable working in a goal driven environment
  • Understand priorities and balance departmental/customer needs
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
