Job Description

Assures consistent deployment of established quality systems, drives improvements in customer relationships, monitor quality indices to assure they meet company / customer expectations, implement sustainable corrective actions, contribute to the financial wellbeing of the facility / company. Develops and trains employees in SPC and quality expectations. Manages internal and external relationships relative to quality including suppliers, customers and regulatory compliance.

  • Organize and lead teams of cross-functional personnel to investigate and solve both internal and external problems which may be affecting customer relations and/or plant metrics.

  • Enhance the workforce knowledge base of quality systems, objectives and expectations through training and coaching of employees; communication of job expectations.

  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by communicating quality related performance, contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews, preparing and completing action plans; implementing operational standard work, identifying and resolve problems through established problem solving tools, determining system improvements and implementing change.

  • Meets quality assurance financial objectives by minimizing customer claims and warranty costs, disposition of internal heldware, analyzing product variances to specifications, initiating corrective actions.

  • Drive continuous improvement of quality assurance systems through layered audits of the operation focusing on compliance to established policies / procedures and the application of standard work.

  • Develops quality assurance action plans by conducting a risk assessment of the operation for potential critical failure points, hazard analysis, and food safety risks (HACCP) if applicable.

  • Validates effectiveness of quality processes by assuring product compliance to specifications, monitoring control charts for trends and/or out of control conditions, analyze statistical data summaries for indications of compliance issues, validate gauging and measurement systems

  • Assure maintenance of plant housekeeping and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to all internal and customer standards. If applicable, act as plant Product Safety team leader to assure compliance to food safety standards (i.e. FSSC 22000, SQF, BRC, ISO 2200) along with relevant training.

  • Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.


Core Proficiencies and Skills
The Quality Assurance Manager is required to interact with managers, employees, vendors and customers. Therefore the following skills and proficiencies are also essential requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of SPC and the applications within a manufacturing environment

  • Multi-functional team leadership and project management

  • Ability to interpret data and develop countermeasures to solve problems

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business or other applicable area

  • Five or more years quality leadership and/or continuous improvement experience

  • Six sigma greenbelt, A3 or continuous improvement equivalent certification

Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervises other employees; evaluates and signs performance reviews of other full-time employees; instructs other employees in methods or procedures needed to carry out their job (how to carry-out their assigned duties).

  • Makes hiring and pay and recommendations and decisions

  • Makes termination recommendations and has authority to terminate an employee with HR guidance.
