Property Accountant Role

Westport Properties continues to grow rapidly and we are seeking a Property Accountant with a strong background in property management and real estate construction, and has proficient knowledge in GAAP related to real estate accounting and consolidations. The qualified candidate will also have a proven successful track record in an Accountant role handling the day-to-day Accounting functions and responsibilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Property Accountant will be responsible for 15-20 properties. This position must be able to perform the following duties and manage the following area of responsibilities:

  • Full-cycle accounting for 15-20 properties
  • Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Prepare and compile funding request to the lender, coordinate and follow up funding approval
  • Review documentations, verify approvals, communicate and interact with lender, development team, and other related parties
  • Process partners/investors distributions
  • Monitor Escrow Balances
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reports
  • Assist in annual budget preparations
  • Assist in annual tax return preparations
  • Assist in ad hoc analysis and other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years accounting experience, in multi-site accounting, property management/real estate construction preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Outlook; experienced with Yardi highly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP related to real estate accounting and consolidations
  • Knowledge and understanding of lien waivers and releases, AIA form (G702) billings, and preliminary notices
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player and can collaborate with other departments in the organization
  • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, department supervisors and managers, lenders, and other consultants and/or vendors
  • Ability to work flexible hours depending on various Accounting Property deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills


  • College Degree Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • Relevant years of work experience and advanced Accounting certification may substitute for the degree requirement

    : frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with clients who have inquiries about their storage accounts, billing invoice or other related account matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

  • Sight:
    frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, facility objects near and far

  • Climb
    : occasionally ascends/descends a flight of stairs to service the lights and/or reach overhead
