Student Summer Intern Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS), a US Department of Energy (DOE) facility in western South Carolina.
The intern will perform meaningful work in support of the organization. Guidance will be provided using SRR processes and procedures. Interns will prepare and present a final project to the SRR management team summarizing conclusions about the experience, impacts delivered and relevance for their future career.
This assignment is for the Chemical & Nuclear Engineering group. The intern will utilize basic chemical & Nuclear engineering, problem solving and analytical skills to assist with projects. Currently there are two projects for the candidate to work on during 8-10 weeks of stay. Upon knowing the candidate class and interests, will be assigned one project. Candidate will be learning general system planning work. Have some knowledge of Unit Operations and General Chemistry. Have some programming knowledge and general understanding of modeling. Have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
The internship will run for a 12-week period from May 20, 2019 until August 8, 2019. Housing is not provided but reasonable rentals are available through the University of South Carolina-Aiken student housing office.
A 40-hour work week is set and scheduled by the individual departments. SRS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), etc. Each work day has a 30-minute lunch. Interns will be paid a competitive hourly rate; no summer interns will be assigned to shift work; overtime is not available; Interns will be paid for site holidays (Memorial Day, July 4) as applicable.
Assignments will be located in SRR facilities on the 300sq mile DOE site outside of Aiken SC. Public transportation is not available and interns will be required to arrange their own transportation. A valid Driver’s License, Registration and proof of automobile insurance is required for driving on the Savannah River Site.

You will be assigned to SRS General Employee Training and Drug and Alcohol test appointments before badging and commencement of assignment.

+ Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student as a rising senior at:
+ an accredited four year university, and currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Chemistry OR
+ an accredited college or university, and currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemistry.
+ Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
+ Due to the nature of work, candidate must be a US Citizen
+ Must pass General Employment Training (GET)
+ Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAT)
These two items will be scheduled before the intern starts work at Savannah River Site.
