Capital One is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Principal Risk Associate to join the Internal Fraud and Conduct Risk Management team. The team is a dedicated group of professionals developing and executing second line-of-defense oversight responsibilities for risks such as internal fraud, theft or compromise of sensitive information, bribery & corruption, workplace violence, data exfiltration, and sales practices. This team is responsible for providing frameworks and tools, advising on best practices, effectively challenging, reporting, and driving stakeholder engagement across all elements of Internal Fraud and Conduct Risk (i.e., the risk of inappropriate, unethical, or unlawful practices or behaviors by an insider).

This role will afford the Principal Risk Associate an opportunity to have a broad range of responsibilities, including providing effective challenge as part of enterprise risk and control assessments; developing, implementing, and performing validation work for operational controls identified through various risk assessment processes; supporting the buildout of Conduct Risk governance and reporting; driving root cause analyses; providing horizontal support for Audits/Exams; and working with business and technology stakeholders to ensure the protection of critical information and assets against threats by insiders.

This role will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with our business partners while adhering to the highest ethical standards required for independent oversight. Success in this position will rely heavily on working with other team members, identifying and executing strategies to build and improve processes, analyzing data from a variety of sources and independently identifying risk.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with the internal fraud and conduct risk management communities

  • Support internal fraud and conduct risk management oversight functions by gathering and analyzing data, drafting reports, and communicating relevant information to management and business partners

  • Support internal fraud and conduct risk oversight and assessment, including providing effective challenge and managing risk/control data in system of record

  • Conduct analysis to support identification of emerging risks, process improvements, or areas for increased focus

  • Perform validation on identified controls to provide assurance that risk-taking groups are appropriately representing their control environments

  • Ensure results of validation activities are properly documented and communicated, and perform and support detailed validation data analysis to include trending, problem identification, and development/completion of remediation plans

  • Support internal audits and regulatory examinations by gathering and preparing materials for senior management and tracking responses

  • Balance multiple priorities to help drive business value and support team objectives

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or Military Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in financial fraud defense, risk management, compliance, or audit

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 3 years of experience in financial fraud defense, risk management, compliance, or audit

  • Experience with control testing, validation, or quality assurance

  • Internal Audit, Fraud Examiner, Risk Management, or Business Process Management certifications

  • Proficient in using Google Suite Products (Slides, Sheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Advanced skills in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel

  • Basic or advanced skills in data analysis and data visualization tools
