Providence is calling a Polysomnography Technician Non-Registered (1.0 FTE, Nights) to work in the Sleep Laboratory at Providence St Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

Polysomnography technicians are responsible for performing monitoring and diagnostic testing under the supervision of a Registered Polysmonography Technician. This includes all aspects of patient hook-up, equipment interfacing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and scoring. This includes Polysomnography, Polysomnography with therapeutic intervention, screening studies, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT or MWT), patient follow-up and education, for the Polysomnographic Specialist.

In this position you will:

  • Review medical information and study orders/chart to determine completeness of required documentation and become familiar with potential study requirement/parameters. Communicate problems to the clinical/medical director, interpreting physician, surgeon, nursing staff or supervisor as indicated.
  • Collect data from the patient by observation and interview in order to verify background information and identify patient-specific needs during testing (such as physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history as described by patient, spouse/family member, etc.). Provides age appropriate care.
  • Analyze and integrate collected information in order to perform an appropriate study, meet the patient’s special requirements, and determine final testing parameters/procedures.
  • Set-up specific test/monitoring equipment for procedure. Prepare room/test site. Prepare electrodes and monitors for patient hook up.
  • Apply monitors to patient using proper techniques and infection control practices. Removes monitors and electrodes using proper techniques and infection control practices. Responsible for maintaining and evaluating all equipment for electrical safety.
  • Completes required paperwork, data entry and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Performs calibrations of equipment. Optimizes recording.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of a polysomnography or sleep disorders technology program
  • AHA BLS
  • Must obtain registration (RPSGT) with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists within two years of hire
