The Peer Recovery Coach’s role is to support others in recovery with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long term recovery. Will demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Acts as a liaison between persons and staff. Relays information to medical doctors/clinicians and other staff to aid in problem solving. Coordinates responses to inquiries, as appropriate, to state and local partners. Conducts presentations and offers technical assistance to all stakeholders. Participates on committees, with Ohio MHAS Certified Peer Recovery Supporter technical assistance calls, provides intern/patient training on peer service delivery. Documents information as directed.
This is a grant funded position.
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Associate’s Degree or higher
Specialty/Major: Health and human services
Certified Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter with Ohio MHAS or obtains certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred: Currently certified as a Peer Recovery Supporter with Ohio MHAS
BLS certified by American Heart Association or obtain within 30 days of hire
2-5 years’ experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders and substance diagnosis.
Experience in working in a Substance Use disorder/chemical dependency setting highly preferred.
Basic Life Support Certification required within 30 days of hire.
Motivational Interviewing skills, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy skills.
