Position description

Seeking a Professional Fee – E/M coder to work within the Coding Operations department which is part of the Revenue Cycle Division. This position will focus primarily on coding Outpatient Professional Fee and Ancillary services, but may also from time to time be asked to support the Inpatient Professional Fee line. Additional skills related to Clinic Professional Fee Coding as well as Observation Coding are preferred.

Demonstrates expert job knowledge and applies current coding and billing regulations, policies, processes and procedures with effective decision-making and problem solving skills. Abstracts, interprets and reviews medical record documentation to assign accurate CPT-4 procedure and may assign -ICD-10 diagnosis codes for procedures performed in the clinic setting or procedure rooms (excludes Interventional Radiology). May provide CPT Evaluation and Management codes and ICD-10 diagnosis codes for consultations in the hospital setting. Assigns appropriate modifiers. Clarifies physician documentation as appropriate. Understands and applies medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Demonstrates knowledge of sequencing diagnoses and procedure codes outlined in the ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines, AMA CPT instructions, CPT Assistant, CMS guidelines and other resources as applicable. Meets established coding and abstracting quality and productivity standards. May provide training and/or quality support as directed. Is flexible and willing to adapt to changes in the work environment. Maintains effective and professional communication skills. Demonstrates excellent customer service. Contributes to a positive departmental image by exhibiting professionalism, teamwork and mutual respect. Practices continuous improvement. Is proficient in navigating the electronic medical record and all supporting information management and billing systems.


Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIT or RHIA or CPC; or Bachelor's Degree in any field with a CPC and 2 years of surgical coding experience.


Additional qualifications

Requires a basic understanding of CPT-4 and ICD-10 diagnosis coding, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and disease processes. Possesses PC skills, both keyboarding and applications. Knowledge of and experience with the electronic medical record and billing systems preferred.


License or certification

RHIT or RHIA or CPC credential.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.53 per hour.
