Operates a public transportation vehicle following established routes and schedules while maintaining conformance with public transportation laws, rules, and regulations; and transports passengers over specified routes or to specified destinations in a safe and efficient manner.
Note: This is a Safety Sensitive position as defined by the US Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration and are therefore subject to all current and future FTA Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations. Incumbents must be able to successfully complete required (Paid training) classroom and on the street training program.
REQUIRED: High School diploma or GED, completion of bus operator training program, and two years driving public transportation vehicles. Must be 21 years of age.
Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Knowledge of traffic regulations and rules and regulations regarding public transportation and safety precautions and practices in the operation of public transportation vehicles; and demonstrated ability to work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to know your location in relation to the environment or know where other objects are in relation to you and the vehicle; and ability to read and understand written instructions, hear and understand verbal instructions and maintain legible records. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a customer service orientation and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse population and effectively communicate with passengers, members of the public, and other staff.
Experience driving public transportation vehicles in a University community setting; successful completion of IU Campus Bus Service bus operator training program and at least 1,000 hours of driving for IU Campus Bus Service.
