Operations Manager – Philadelphia, PA

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations in the Student Center. Maintains audio-visual equipment inventory and performs routine maintenance and upgrades. Helps establish service standards and recommends operational policies and procedures as necessary. Serves as the first point of contact for troubleshooting issues within the facility.

This position is a vital part of the Student Center Operations management team. As a department within the Division of Student Affairs, the Student Center serves the Temple University community with a vibrant 200,000 sq. ft. facility that houses meetings and multipurpose areas, student organization spaces, university offices, lounges, study areas, and a variety of campus services such as the Bookstore, UPS Store, and Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. The Student Center also provides the following programs and services: “The Reel” Movie Theater, Game Room, Graphics Media Center, and Information Desk.

The Student Center is normally open from 7AM-Midnight, Monday – Friday; and 10AM – Midnight on weekends with extended hours as needed. The Operations Manager works a first shift schedule with occasional evening and weekend hours required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience. Experience with operating and troubleshooting mixing boards, smart room technology and related audio equipment. Experience with supervising student workers. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sound, lighting and related audio-visual equipment including microphones, sound boards, light boards, speakers and projectors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems including software, hardware, connectivity (networking) and audio/video.
  • Knowledge of electronic point of sale systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows OS.


  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs or related field.
  • Background in Hospitality, Student Center/Student Union Operations, Conference and Event Services, or related field
  • Knowledge of event management/scheduling software (EMS, R25, Roomviewer, Meeting Matrix, etc.)
