Job Description:

Assist with the design, development, integration, and testing of various underwater sensors and mechanical components for high resolution sonar systems.


Job Details:

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other system developers and designers as part of a multi-disciplinary team to determine project requirements, development tasks and schedules.

  • Modeling, design and development of mechanical and acoustic components for high frequency sonar applications.

  • Engineering Analysis and FEA of designed components to predict performance.

  • Integration, testing, and validation of hardware at the component and system level.

  • Procurement, fabrication, and assembly of transducers and other sonar components.

  • Develop and review engineering documentation, including presentation of technical materials for program managers and project sponsors

  • Support the installation and testing of equipment in field.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated technical proficiency building sonar system hardware and underwater structural components. Demonstrated ability involving product development from conceptual design to finished product. Proficiency in the design of mechanical parts for manufacture using SolidWorks CAD software. A thorough understanding and historical execution using both traditional and additive manufacturing methods. Capable and experienced in machine design of hardware, electronics housings, over-mold encapsulation of electronic components, and the design of tooling / test platforms. Knowledge of GD&T drawing practices and technical documentation per ASME Y14.5. Ability with system integration and laboratory calibration and evaluation of sensors is also required. Proficiency interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure mechanical components. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the mechanical design and specification of electronic printed circuit card assemblies and thermal cooling systems. Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) for structural analysis of mechanical components using SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent software. Experience in the mechanical design and specification of high frequency transducer assemblies and associated assembly tooling. Proficient in data analysis using Matlab or Python, also proficient with Matlab Simulink and Comsol MultiPhysics software. Experience with Labview VI data acquisition software, power amplifiers, function generators, and oscilloscopes for laboratory testing of sonar components. Demonstrated experience operating manual and CNC mills, manual lathes, grinders, welders, overhead cranes, and various other machine shop tools. Demonstrated skills in mechanical and electrical system troubleshooting. Prior or current eligibility for access to classified information. Prior applicable work experience related to the listed job details. Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Salary Range

$69,500-$80,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
