Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining mechanical equipment throughout the facility in a safe and productive manner. This is a full- time hourly position and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Mechanic must be willing to become a Bargaining Unit Member of the IBEW Local 614. This position is located in Philadelphia, P.A.

Responsibilities

1. Diagnose and repair rotating equipment

2. Perform routine maintenance functions as required to facilitate the operation of the plant

3. Perform periodic preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with plant operating and safety procedures

4. Install, repair, align and troubleshoot high pressure centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, pneumatic and electrical controls equipment, steam distribution equipment including piping, pressure reducing values, steam traps, steam boiler auxiliaries and expansion joints

5. May be required to work scheduled and emergency overtime and on occasion night shift

Required Qualifications and Experience

1. High School diploma or GED

2. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic

3. Must be able to understand and willing to accept verbal and written instructions from supervisors in English

4. Excellent analytical and mechanical skills installing and servicing machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and IOM manuals

5. Demonstrated proficiency in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of rotating equipment

6. Knowledge of and experience with laser alignment tools, milling equipment, calipers, micrometers, etc.

7. Ability to complete routine paperwork and work orders with computer input

8. Must possess knowledge of the alignment of rotating equipment, safe rigging procedures, and mechanical and structural systems

9. Cooperates and works well with fellow employees of all levels

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

1. Vo-tech, post high school certificate or completion of apprenticeship in one or more trades

2. Degree in Machine Tool Technology is desirable

3. Experience working as a Maintenance Mechanic in a power plant, refinery, or other industrial plant setting

4. Experience working on high pressure steam boilers and associated balance of plant equipment

5. Knowledge of industrial centrifugal chillers

6. Knowledge on inspections and preventive maintenance of combustion and steam turbines and auxiliaries

7. Knowledge of centrifugal and screw type air compressors and driers

8. Experience with Lock Out Tag Out

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to tolerate confined spaces, to hear and detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and hear portable radio communication

2. Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted

3. Able to climb and tolerate operational heights

4. Able to tolerate and work outdoors and in higher than normal temperatures indoors

5. Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and insurable by company’s vehicle insurance carrier.
