ability to obtain a passing grade in facility Medication Exam within 30 days of employment.
Work with physicians & social workers to secure informed consent for medication from
parents, courts, conservators, etc.
Take physician orders for medications, denial of rights, medical procedures, lab work, x-rays, etc. and make sure each order is implemented.
Visually and audibly observes adolescents physical and psychiatric conditions and reports
changes to the Charge RN or the Psychiatrist or other Medical Doctor on call in the absence of the Charge RN or DON.
Upon verification of informed consents and physician’s orders, administer medications as
Order and assure on-going supply of individual medications for each child.
Take vital signs as ordered.
Audit Medical Records to make sure all orders have been implemented.
Provide medication education and information on health practices to clients.
Completes Nursing Assessments on New Clients or when clients require such assessments.
Complete Transfer or Aftercare Instructions for clients being sent to acute care or discharged
Provides other nursing duties including first aide and medical intervention within scope of
licensure as necessary for each individual client.
Child Care Duties:
Supervise, protect, and care for children individually and in groups at all times.
Promotes and assists adolescents with self-help skills in the areas of eating, hygiene and
grooming and other activities.
Assist children in working in groups and in handling individual problems.
Provide day-to-day supervision and care of children, including assistance with activities of daily
living, personal care, planned activities, and school.
Set limits for children’s behavior and administer positive reinforcement and discipline systems.
Attend and participate in morning rounds, change of shift meetings, and treatment team meetings as scheduled on the assignment sheet.
Participates in in-service education as required by State and facility regulations.
Serve as Facility Manager as required.
Serve as Charge Nurse in the absence of the RN for the shift they are working on by directing
Youth Counselors per the assignment sheets.
