POSITION TITLE:
Controls Technician DEPARTMENT: Operations

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Support REPORTS TO: Sr Manufacturing Engineer

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Works directly with Manufacturing Engineers and the Manufacturing team to maintain, support, and improve manufacturing operations. To include troubleshooting equipment and process issues, performing and documenting fixtures and equipment maintenance, updating process documentation and performs routine preventative maintenance. Also assists Manufacturing Engineers with projects through building or procuring test equipment and performing testing, including process validations.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • – Assists Manufacturing Engineers as required to complete complex tooling design and assembly projects including performing basic machining operations, wiring, PLC ladder logic programming and pneumatic circuit construction
  • – Works independently as required to complete basic tooling design and assemble projects including performing basic machining operations, wiring, PLC ladder logic programming and pneumatic circuit constructions
  • – Offers feedback on tooling and/or equipment improvement ideas focused on ergonomics, quality, cycle time reduction, and uptime.
  • – Executes and documents preventative and corrective maintenance through company software program
  • – Monitors the clean rooms for needed equipment repairs and performs repairs as needed
  • – Performs nearly all repairs needed, suggests, implements solutions to equipment issues
  • – Follows all GMP and SOP’s as defined by Viant’s policies, practices and procedures to ensure that FDA and ISO regulations and quality standards are met
  • – Responds to line calls in a professional, safe, and timely manner
  • – Maintains and sustains the daily operation of production machines and fixtures with goal of zero downtime
  • – Tests devices and machines to determine performance levels
  • – Documents results of testing and/or trouble shooting
  • – Identifies the root cause of manufacturing equipment problems and implements corrective action
  • – Identifies and improves safety issues within the production areas
  • – Dismantles, repairs or replaces devices using hand tools and power tools
  • – Consults, collaborates and offers collaboration with other Maintenance Technicians, Engineers and Operators to identify and resolve all maintenance issues within a timely manner
  • – Communicates and collaborates with external vendors
  • – Maintains 5S environment in work area(s) and maintenance area
  • – Follows required lock out/tag out procedures and all other safety requirements
  • – Prepares and sets up equipment when required
  • – Performs other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge/Education:

  • – Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • – Advance technical training or certification preferred
  • – Experience with Allen Bradley Studio 5000, RS Logic 500 and Direct logic software

Job Experience:

  • – Hands-on technical experience working in maintenance within a manufacturing environment preferred
  • – Previous experience in a medical device manufacturing environment or other related industry preferred
  • – Intermediate electrical trouble shooting
  • – Intermediate pneumatic circuit trouble shooting
  • – Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances and schematics
  • – Understanding of electrical motors, servo motors and PLC controls & vision systems
  • – Understanding of machining, milling, and lathe equipment
  • – Experience with MIOSHA standards
  • – Controls:
  • – Intermediate PLC programming (add sensor & change sequence)
  • – Strong understanding of ladder logic and intermediate level ability to troubleshoot issues through a PLC
  • – Trouble shoot HMI system
  • – Load program
  • – Replace components (i.e. logical module, screen, sensor, etc.)
  • – Setup IP address, set system name
  • – Ability to maintain computer based machine repair and PM records systems

Physical Requirements:

  • – Must be able to get underneath or mount equipment ranging from floor level or below, elevated heights, and in confined spaces to perform repairs and inspections
  • – Must be able to lift, tighten (“torque”) equipment. Frequent amounts of finger dexterity used
  • – Must be able to safely and efficiently make machine repairs in a highly efficient, high pressure, clean room manufacturing environment
  • – Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting up to 75lb. Moderate amounts of overhead lifting
  • – Long periods of standing, bending, twisting, turning
  • – Must be able and willing to wear personal protective equipment as required including:
  • – Protective eye ware
  • – Ear plugs
  • – Hair net
  • – Protective gowning (lab coat, hood, shoe covers)
