POSITION DESCRIPTION

Pioneer Technical Services is looking for a staff level Geotechnical Engineer to be based out of our Helena, MT office. This person will perform geotechnical engineering duties including subsurface investigations for designing building structures, facilities, and infrastructure such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, channels, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, power plants, and water and sewage systems. This position will also provide part-time support for Pioneer's materials testing laboratory and field personnel by assisting operations when required. Candidate must have a valid driver's license. Travel: 10-50%.

Essential Functions

  • Perform soil, concrete, and asphalt laboratory testing to determine index and engineering properties of materials.
  • Provide administrative support to laboratory managers.
  • Review technician inspection reports.
  • Follow industry design standards and procedures.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Prepare boring logs, soil profiles, and review geotechnical laboratory testing results.
  • Conduct field investigations, inspections, and provide geotechnical related construction recommendations.
  • Prepare geotechnical analyses and recommendations for dams, buildings, bridges, retaining walls and rock/earth slides
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Interact with clients on an as-needed basis.
  • Team member capable of supporting of supporting senior engineers in all facets of geotechnical design process.

Skills and Abilities


Education:
Bachelor's Degree (Required),

Field of Study: Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geophysics, or related studies


Experience:
Two years of experience in relevant work. Graduate school may be credited for a portion of this time.


Computer Skills:
Must be proficient with the use of a computer. Knowledge in the Microsoft Office software and AutoCad is required.


Certification & Licenses:
Fundamental Engineer (FE) designation preferred


Other Requirements:
Must be available to travel.
