This individual will lead the development of highly complex equipment and tooling concepts and specifications to satisfy aerospace product design and build requirements. The designer will lead tool design reviews, tool design requirement collection, create models/drawings/revisions and research new technology to support the build plan. The designer may off-load packages, specifications, purchase requests and usage instructions for equipment and tooling. The designer will check designs for compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements. The designer will lead the implementation of best practices into functional process documentation to drive standard work. The designer oversees the development and documentation of equipment and tooling inspection and usage instructions, preventative maintenance plans, and user training. The designer will provide technical direction to support engineering changes and discrepancy resolution.

he Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Equipment and Tool Designer . This Level 4 position is located in Hazelwood, MO.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include but not limited to:

Investigates, develops and verifies accuracy of tooling concepts and tooling definitions.

Researches tool designs to create and revise tool usage instructions.

Prepares tool design or fabrication off load packages.

Provides engineering design disposition on tool discrepancies to identify solutions.

Develops, documents and maintains complex tool inspection and maintenance requirements.

Participates in multi-functional product design reviews to support manufacturing/tooling plan.

Works under general direction.


Work Authorization

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Leads the development of highly complex equipment and tooling concepts and specifications to satisfy aerospace product design and build requirements.
  • Leads design reviews, design requirement collection, drawing creation and revision.
  • Researches the application of robotics, automation and new technology to support the build plan.
  • Creates off-load packages, specifications, purchase requests and usage instructions for equipment and tooling.
  • Checks designs for compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and validates spares requirements. Leads the implementation of best practices into functional process documentation to drive standard work.
  • Oversees the development and documentation of equipment and tooling inspection and usage instructions, preventative maintenance plans, and user training.
  • Provides technical direction to support engineering changes and discrepancy resolution.
  • Oversees the maintenance of hardware and software configuration.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations for disposition of equipment and tooling.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in St. Louis production aircraft using St. Louis Tool Engineering processes & procedures is highly desirable as is experience in assembly tools, masters and mechanical & handling equipment tools.
  • Experience modeling and controlling configuration using Product Data Manager (PDM) in UGNX.


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years’ related work experience, 8 years’ related work experience, etc.).
