Our employees work in a fast-paced Ambulatory Surgical Center, serving a population of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The demands of this position are dynamic because of rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, policies, procedures, and physician preference in equipment, positioning and supplies
Provides patient care of a technical nature, performing endoscopic procedures that support and assist the work of the Physician, RN and Endoscopy Team for the good of the patient. Assists in implementation and data collection in the care of the patients undergoing endoscopic procedures and performs other duties as assigned. Provides technical skills as a member of the endoscopy team, communicating with other staff, supervisors, RNs, physicians and anesthesiologists.
At the direction of the GI Physician, endoscopy technicians assist the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including, but not limited to:
- Esophageal dilations
- Liver Biopsy
- PEG tube placement
- Hemorrhage control
- Specimen acquisition, labelling, handling, etc.
Responsible for the care of instrumentation before, during and after endoscopy procedures by ensuring safe transportation, handling, disinfection, sterilization and maintenance of the Flexible Endoscopes and the Automated Reprocessing devices. Ensures equipment is working properly before procedures, cares for equipment after procedure and is responsible for reporting equipment that is not working properly or is broken. Confirm integrity and appropriate preparation of all sterile items before use and while preparing aseptic/sterile field
This is an ongoing process of education and updating current practices following the manufacturer’s suggested guidelines, and recommendations of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), ASGE, AAAHC, and the Centers of Disease Control (CDC).
Ideal candidates should have at least 1-2 years of previous experience as a CNA, MA, Monitor Tech, Phlebotomy, EMT or Paramedic in an acute patient care setting or hospital, ambulance experience, and/or have previous gastroenterology experience.
Excellent computer and people skills are required as well.
