Electronic Access Specialist

We are now accepting applications for a qualified Electronic Access Specialist at Belmont University.

Primary Duties and
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Electronic Access Specialist (EAS) is responsible for working with 7 pin key core systems, cutting keys, maintenance and installation of various lock-sets/key cores, and general lock and electronic access equipment repairs and maintenance.

  • Fabricates, maintains, repairs, modifies, adjusts and services a variety of electronic access control systems, panic devices, door alarms, electric and mechanical locks and other related door hardware and equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains ADA auto openers, to include assisting in the troubleshooting and programming. Installs and repairs hydraulic closing fixtures. Repairs locks, padlocks, safe locks, door locks, and key locks. This includes disassembling/reassembling locks, including repairing and replacing worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. Recodes seven pin key core systems. Replaces and/or installs key cores. Makes and repairs keys of various types and operates key machines. Cuts new or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
  • Opens locks for which there is no key or existing combinations both mechanical and electronic. Adjusts doors and any related hardware to ensure doors are closing and latching in a proper manner. Repairs and maintains complete “door opening,” to include doors, closers, sweeps, hinges, and other related equipment. Rebuilds major locking devices, both mechanical and electronic, as well as any supporting hardware.
  • Helps all of Facilities Management Services in maintaining accessibility to the campus for maintenance purposes. Repairs and/or changes combinations on safes. Assists the supervisor with ensuring a sufficient inventory of materials. Participates in snow removal or duties as assigned in response to emergencies. Remains on call during off hours and weekends as requested.
  • Inspects fire doors and makes repairs or adjustments to ensure compliance with fire code. Tests and inspects access control systems. Tests and evaluates new access systems for performance and reliability.
  • Performs periodic standard inspection and preventative maintenance on electronic/mechanical door systems. Attends regular safety meetings. Attends work unit staff meetings. Maintains a safe work environment and performs duties in a safe manner.
  • Communicates weekly schedule, and any changes to it, with supervisor as directed. Maintains frequent communication with building users, contractors and other facilities personnel in regard to work request status and on-going projects. Responds to work order requests and needs for assistance through various communication methods (text message, phone, and two-way radio).
  • Independently establishes plans (short term and long term) for repairs, improvements and upgrades to equipment. Confers with supervisor on a regular basis, discussing work processes and problems. Maintains a close, open communication and positive relationship with other departmental units (i.e. custodial and landscaping/grounds). Builds solid, cross-functional, working relationships with the campus community, as well as with contracted vendors.

  • Knowledge of the techniques for keying, repairing, installing and servicing mechanical and electrified locks and related hardware
  • Understanding of complex electronic equipment and systems as it relates to access control
  • Skilled in repairing, installing and servicing locks and related mechanical/electrified hardware
  • Work demands are not always predictable. Quick problem solving and immediate technical judgement and direction-setting are required
  • Ability to maintain sustained physical effort and heavy lifting (50 lbs)
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and move unassisted in order to perform work activities
  • Ability to assess conditions and have the ability to enter small confined spaces, unlighted areas, or elevated areas
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in the workplace
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skill in performing multiple technical tasks with an occasional need to enhance skills due to changing job conditions
  • Ability to organize and delegate work in order to control a variety of programs simultaneously and the adaptability to cope with changing facilities standards and requirements
  • Ability to read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information before groups; and solve practical problems
  • Ability to plan and organize
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with employees, building occupants, contractors, and other administrative personnel
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately, problem solve and adopt an effective course of action
  • Ability to meet schedules and time lines
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the university community

Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Required Experience

  • Five years of locksmith OR electronic access control experience; OR
  • Three years of locksmith AND electronic access control experience.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
