General Description of Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Civil Docket, the purpose of the position is to enter and maintain all legal document records that require service of process in the Civil Case Management System within the Civil Division of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification perform routine office work which includes but is not limited to processing and completing data entry into the Civil Case Management System for all legal documents from members of the public including but not limited to attorneys, proper person, law enforcement agencies, and other government agencies across the country. These legal documents may include petitions, subpoenas, garnishments, citations, writs, and restraining orders. Performs any work as assigned.
  • Review docket payments for accuracy from other Parishes.
  • Send invoices and miscellaneous papers to other Parishes.
  • Enter legal documents into the Civil Case Management System.
  • Answer phone calls from members of the public and provide solutions and information as it relates to legal documents.
  • Sent returns for parishes within the State of Louisiana and across the country.
  • Type affidavits for out of state papers.
  • Assist attorneys with services and costs paid.
  • Stamp and record papers from all parishes within the State of Louisiana and across the country.
  • Provide mail service for legal documents to parishes within the State of Louisiana and across the country.
  • Accept funds which include all docket fees from members of the public.
  • Time Stamp all legal documents to track when legal documents were received by the Office.
  • Process and distribute incoming mail to all departments within the Civil Division.
  • Notify appropriate attorney as to why service is not performed.
  • File unpaid documents in appropriate place.
  • Remove from files and dispatch all processes that service has been paid for or that new instructions for service have been received from appropriate attorney.
  • Pull records from the Clerk of Court for the Parish of Orleans as requested and refile records when they are returned.
  • Purge the files as necessary.
  • Provide initial review of Temporary Restraining Orders, Court Orders, and writs.
  • Submit recommendation of initial review for Temporary Restraining Orders, Court Orders and writs to management for final review execution.
  • Efficiently operate any current or future Civil Case Management System, computer software and applications.
  • Efficiently operate any current or future electronic devices including laptops, air cards, desktops, and fax machines.
  • Any other duties not described herein as required and assigned.
