Disease Intervention Specialist 1 – BPH/OEPS – See Posting – West Virginia

Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR)/ Bureau for Public Health (BPH)/ Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services (OEPS)/ Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan Co. – Under general supervision, this position is responsible for learning disease investigation and intervention within a Public Health District. Incumbent works as a part of a wider team and plans and participates in programs related to the control of sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Work involves identification and follow up of cases, carriers and at-risk groups to prevent, treat and provide science-based education and counseling to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease. This position will provide training and education to stakeholders to increase interviewing efforts, obtain valid patient information and ensure proper education for all STD patients. This class is distinguished from the Disease Intervention Specialist Trainee and Disease Intervention Specialist 2 by the performance of more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. A valid driver’s license and availability of a car for travel may be required. Alternate to posting (EPS19029). Only one position will be filled. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.


Substitution:
Experience as described below may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required training.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in STD/HIV control, nursing, or social services and/or public health case management and case investigation.

Special Requirement: A valid driver’s license and the availability of an automobile is required. A Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certificate for laboratory testing may be required.
