Cooks prepare food in two different but equally important ways; either by preparing food made to order in front of the customer, or preparing food in the kitchen for patients. Cooks may be used in either position upon completion of training.
One cook position prepares food made to order in front of the customer. Proper eye contact, facial expression and ability to answer questions about the food being prepared is essential. The Cook must demonstrate safe food handling practices, follow recipes in detail, and make timely judgments/decisions. Proper presentation of the finished product is a priority. Team work is expected. This position involves working with several types of kitchen equipment in fluctuating work temperatures.
The other cook position prepares patient food on demand according to the patient’s wishes but within the limits of their diet order. Following recipes and instructions with a high degree of accuracy is essential as any variation may impact the patient’s health. The Cook works as a team with the Room Service Hostess and Runner to ensure that the patient’s meal experience is a positive one. Proper phone etiquette is required. The ability to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team is essential. This position requires knowledge of safe food handling procedures in compliance with Ohio Health Department standards. PREFERRED: High school diploma/GED
