Community Clinic Supervisor (Veterinary Technician) – New Orleans, LA 70114


Overview of the Job:

The job will direct, plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties to support and promote animal welfare and client education. This position supports the Medical Manager and will ensure quality care for our patients, and implementing greater efficiency technical and administrative processes.

Success Criteria & Essential Skills:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with a diverse group of employees and clients and supervise a team of technicians in the Community Clinic Wellness, Spay/Neuter, Heartworm Treatment, Dentals, and Shelter;
  • Monitor veterinary technician staff periodically throughout the day, encourage productivity, and manage daily performance including successful handling of disciplinary issues with the Medical Manager;
  • Develop skills and oversee the training of technicians;
  • Attend and represent management at technician meetings;
  • Develop and oversee compliance of daily, weekly, monthly to-do lists for technician staff;
  • Ensure all technicians follow proper safety procedures;
  • Ability to successfully communicate with diverse range of customers;
  • Ability to quickly grasp and master technology advancements, systems and methods of veterinary care and practice;
  • Deliver excellent customer service and be able to speak effectively before small groups of customers and employees;
  • Ability to graciously deal with client complaints and billing questions;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as patient charts, vaccine histories, medical labels, safety, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Maintain proper medical record keeping for shelter patients in Pet Point and Community Clinic patients in E-vet;
  • Maintain medical equipment per manufactures instructions;
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly inventory of medical supplies and equipment;
  • Verify delivery of all medical supplies and equipment;
  • Be cross trained and able to assist in scheduling, data entry, and intake/discharge;
  • Maintain an effective employee-management communication;
  • Act as a liaison between the Medical Manager and team members;
  • Support the management team in all aspects to staff;
  • Work habits include regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness;
  • Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance
  • Position is considered “Essential” in emergencies and/or disaster situations;
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all cases;
  • Assist and fill in and perform other duties as needed and assigned;


Education & Experience

  • High School diploma.
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university preferred but not required; or two-three years related experience as a technician in a leadership/management role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must demonstrate desire to continue learning in veterinary medicine, care and office skills.
  • Proficiency with the Internet, Microsoft Office, Pet Point, E-vet, or any other veterinary practice software preferred.

Minimum Qualifications- Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate mastery of all routine technician skills such as:
  • Client Communication/Education
  • Animal Handling/Catheter Placement/Injections
  • Assist Veterinarians/Exam Room Protocol
  • Laboratory/Digital Radiography Procedures
  • Medication Preparation
  • Surgical Assistance/Hospitalized Patient Care
  • Safety Protocols and Cleaning Standards
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance screening


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending and stooping.
  • Should not be allergic to animals or have nut allergies; must be able to work around all animals.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to report to work as early as 6:00am and end as late as 7:00pm, weekends and holidays.
  • Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches.
  • Works in an area with a high noise level.
  • Must be able to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending and stooping.
