Facilitates the attainment and maintenance of an optimal level of health for essentially normal women which includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, gynecological, health maintenance and minor acute illness care. Responsibilities includes, but is not limited to, initial and ongoing assessment for suitability of traditional midwifery care; providing prenatal education and coordinating with a licensed health care provider as necessary to provide comprehensive prenatal care, including the routine monitoring of vital signs, indicators of fetal developments, and laboratory tests, as needed, with attention to the physical, nutritional, and emotional needs of the woman and her family. Attending and supporting the natural process of labor and birth; postpartum care of the mother and an initial assessment of the newborn, and providing information and referrals to community resources on childbirth preparation, breast-feeding exercise, nutrition, parenting, and care of the newborn. Cares for patients as noted on age-related category. Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years nursing experience in an applicable clinical area.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a master degree and certified registered nurse midwifery program as approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Our OB/GYN department is seeking a motivated, part-time (0.8 FTE) Certified Nurse Midwife to join the team at our 32nd Avenue Campus. This collegial group is the most experienced team in the area, well-respected and well-received within the Fargo-Moorhead community and greater region, allowing for a busy practice setting with continued growth opportunities. Current team consists of mix of Physicians, CNMs and NPs.Our cohesive team collaborates to provide high-quality, dedicated care that is both efficient and effective for the growing families of our region.
- 0.8 FTE
- Clinic Hours are arranged Mon-Fri between the hours of 8a-5p
- Hospital call coverage, rotated among delivery team (based on FTE)
- Average 15 outpatients per day; procedures vary
- Team performs 110 deliveries per month; will assist with cesarean deliveries
- May provide outreach in future
- Position requires licensure in both ND & MN
Strong communication skills required
The certified nurse midwife performs care that focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, the post-partum period and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. CNM’s work interdependently with physicians with whom they consult and to whom they refer patients who develop complications requiring physician care. They will also provide antepartum, postpartum and gynecologic care to essentially normal women.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master’s Degree (preferred) in nurse midwifery and/or an accredited and certified registered nurse midwifery program as approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in both ND & MN
- Current Licensure identifying practitioner as a certified nurse midwife in both ND & MN.
- Hold membership with the American Midwifery Certification Board.
- Current certification in CPR.
- National certification, in applicable area
Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice.
