PURPOSE

The management of auto property damage and cargo claim files that include the investigation, evaluation, and settlement of assigned claims.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Investigate, document, evaluate and settle auto property damage and cargo losses in accordance with USA Truck Inc. Best Practices
  • Provide quality claim handling and superior customer service on assigned claims with focus on expense management
  • Actively engage in the identification, selection and direction of appropriate internal and/or external resources for specific activities to effectively evaluate and mitigate claims
  • Document claim details in Risk Management Information System
  • Establish and maintain reserves according to initial evaluation and claim developments
  • Evaluate claim exposure and prepare written requests for settlement
  • Participate in claim reviews for early recognition and mitigation of complex claims
  • Negotiate settlement of claims with unrepresented claimants and their attorneys if represented
  • Participate in on call afterhours to direct collisions that occur outside normal business hours

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • College degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years claims experience as a multi-line claim representative
  • Insurance license and continuing education hours as required

  • Proficient with but not limited to Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are required to present complex data and information to audiences with varying levels of expertise
  • Deliver exceptional service through positive engagement, empathy, and patience
  • Ability to work in a team environment to continuously improve results
  • Promote a culture of trust and safety

Working conditions

This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required to:

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently operate a computer for extended periods of time and regularly operate other office productivity machines.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs and move up to 20 pounds of office objects.
  • Frequently communicate with peers, supervisors, third parties, and other employees to exchange accurate information and answer questions.
  • Occasionally attend meetings in buildings outside corporate office and at off-site locations with various internal conditions, and requiring travel in various external conditions.
  • Travel domestically as necessary.
