The City of Topeka is seeking qualified applicants for a Chief of Staff to the City Manager.
The Chief of Staff works as an assistant to the City Manager and performs a variety of professional-level duties to coordinate the administrative activities of the City Manager and is a strategic thought partner to the City Manager, assisting with strategic focus and operations efficiencies to ensure optimal use of resources.
The Chief of Staff participates in meetings and events on behalf of the City Manager; researches and responds to constituent requests for information and assists with resolving complaints; conducts research studies and reviewing projects on a wide variety of municipal projects; prepares and submits oral and written reports and recommendations; and assists the City Manager in evaluating City plans, policies, and objectives by performing research, review of materials, and assembly of factual information.
Additional Duties include but are not limited to:
- Builds strong relationships with department directors across the organization in order to influence outcomes and maintain momentum and to collaborate with Governing Body and the City Manager to achieve desired outcomes.
- Perform highly responsible professional administrative liaison, staff, and managerial work in carrying out a wide variety of activities relating to organizing, coordinating, and implementing management projects at the direction of the City Manager.
- Coordinating outreach for the City Manager to neighborhoods, groups, and organizations.
- Works with the City Manager and the Governing Body to set strategic priorities.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Political Science, Communications, or a related field and must have considerable (3 – 5 years) professional administrative and management experience.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license and City insurable driving record.
Annual entry salary: $125,000 to $135,000 DOQ.
