Assembles, cleans, and sterilizes patient care items and instruments for various departments. Follows policies and procedures to ensure optimal safety and care outcomes for team members and patients. Recognizes, interprets, documents, and communicates significant information necessary for quality patient care and regulations. Interacts with team members, patients, and visitors in a professional manner. Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours (i.e. internal and external disasters); takes on-call as assigned. Attends all mandatory education and in-services (i.e., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); completes mandatory health requirements. Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline.

Requirements
Completion of high school education or equivalent; graduate of Sterile Processing Technology certification program preferred; two (2) years’ experience as Central Sterile Technician, Surgical Technologist or Licensed Practical Nurse; ability to obtain Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) within three (3) years of employment. CRCST required within three (3) year of employment. Attains American Heart Association’s BLS certification within six (6) months of employment and maintains continuous certification.
