Under the direction of the R&D Manager, R&D Technicians are responsible for testing food and nutritional products to determine physical and chemical properties to ensure they comply with FDA, SQF, FSMA, USDA Organic, GMP, Kosher & Halal et. al. regulations. Specific duties include: Researching current markets & latest technologies to develop new product recipes; Involved in formulation design, cost calculation, ingredient sourcing coordination, application, sample preparation and new product scale up coordination for customers and new TNT products; prepare Nutrition and Supplement panels in compliance with FDA regulations based on the recipe of final formulation; track and maintain records of formula experimentation; prepare reports to track performance of ingredients and formulations; ensure food products are fit for distribution; working on packaging innovation and technology; cleans, maintains, operates, and sanitizes laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and scales; communicate with vendors to source ingredients and packaging components; assist with customer complaint investigations or product issues; prepares product costings based on raw materials and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable products and review current products for cost savings; discusses ways to improve food & nutritional product recipes; updates job knowledge by studying food & nutritional product trends; reads professional publications, and participates in professional training & organizations; communicate with customers to determine product specifications and requests; communicate with other TNT departments for product accuracy.

Education Requirement: High SchoolDiploma. Additional training in chemistry, SQF, FSMA, FDA, USDA Organic, GMP, Kosher & Halal requirements, understanding of mathematics.

Experience Requirements: Previous lab research experience. Knowledge of food & nutrition product manufacturing business, processes, policies, procedures, practices & industry specific safety laws, as well as common OSHA policies, procedures & practices, and other regulations that relate to the company.

General Requirements: Good attendance / appearance & personal hygiene / oral & written communication skills;positive attitude; strong work ethic; ability to relate science background to food R&D; ability to work in lab or behind a computer for extended periods of time; prepare accurate, timely and complete reports; and completes tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision; confidentiality; good work area cleanliness; willingness to enforce Company policies & procedures; works well with others; proper treatment of Company assets; attention to detail; and computer experience required. Understanding of Microsoft Office and the Company’s estimating practices.

Preferred Education: Bachelor’sdegree in Chemistry, Business, Science or related field, or related on-the-job experience.

Preferred Experience: Prefer minimum five-(5) years’ lab experience. Knowledge of food & nutrition product manufacturing business, processes, policies, procedures, practices & industry specific safety laws, as well as common OSHA policies, procedures & practices, and other regulations that relate to the company.
