Job Summary
Plans and coordinates disposition services for patients presenting to the Emergency Department withpsychiatric concerns or illness. Processes admissions to inpatient psychiatric units. Presents clinicalinformation to agencies to coordinate care and disposition as well as to insurance companies for clinicalreview for authorization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatric Nursing orother mental health discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 2 years experience with direct inpatient/outpatient behavioral health or related experience.
  • No special certification, registration or license required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid clinical knowledge base and understanding of psychiatric disorders and symptoms. Ability toprocess referrals and coordinate dispositions. Organizational skills. Interpersonal skills, including verbal andwritten communication. Basic computer skills preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Completes documentation relevant to activities. Complies with and ensures adherence to documentation standards. Complies with data collection, entry, and reporting requirements.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Coordinates admission to programs and services within Behavioral Health Services and associated programs.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Participates in the management of aggressive patients as needed to ensure the safety of patient, self, and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides and coordinates referrals to internal or external resources as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical and/or administrative support to Assess Crisis Intervention Services (ACIS) as directed.
  • Provides disposition of persons presenting with behavioral health concerns or illness.
  • Provides support to Emergency Department staff for behavioral health issues.
  • Recognizes early warning signs of escalating behaviors and intervenes as appropriate.
  • Serves as liaison to referral sources, outside agencies, third-party payors, and other interested parties as appropriate and within limits of confidentiality.
