Position Summary:

Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI) is a healthcare services organization created to further the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine; namely, to improve the health of the global community by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research and clinical care. To accomplish this mission, JHI has developed a series of products and services to assist public and private sector clients raise the standard of care at medical institutions abroad. Among those products and services include hospital management support, clinical care, medical program development, education, training, quality assurance, patient safety, international accreditation, and other similar services. JHI provides both advisory and implementation support in these areas and customizes it according to the client’s particular needs, taking into account not only clinical and operational factors, but also local customs and culture. Projects will involve financial monitoring, reconciliation, and oversight of global services project budgets.

The position of Associate reports to a Director and/or Managing Director. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day project management and implementation of JHI programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Research and Analysis of:
    • Demographics and disease data
    • Local market conditions and healthcare trends
    • Competitive factors, including supply and demand
    • Hospital performance data, including key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • JHI performance on client engagements
  • Writing:
    • Proposals
    • Weekly and monthly project updates
    • Annual project overviews and assessments
    • JHM faculty site visit reports
    • Presentations for senior executives
  • Project Management:
    • Evaluate the feasibility of client programs in terms of cost, resources, time and client objectives
    • Establish knowledge transfer (KT) schedule
    • Work closely with JHM/JHU faculty on implementing programs
    • Ensure timely delivery of programs per contract requirements
    • Measure program outcomes
    • Facilitate expatriate staff on-boarding processes
    • Oversee logistics and staff movement
    • Work with internal and external clients on project implementation activities
    • Work with expatriate staff to meet client deliverables
    • Provide suggestions to improve and enhance client deliverables
  • Other Duties as Required.


This position calls for some travel overseas, approximately 10% of the work year.


A. Education:

Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, International Affairs, and/or related field

B. Knowledge:

Some knowledge of project management and coordination.

Some knowledge of the cultural customs, economy, and politics of the regions in which JHI does business.

The ability to research and analyze the needs of the target population and develop plans to promote JHI services in the applicable regions.

Knowledge of customer service theory and customer relationship management.

Competency in a foreign language or international work experience is a plus.

C. Skills:

Research, analysis, writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills required to interact with various levels of management. Ability to draft and present reports, proposals and written work product for clients and JHI leadership. Good organizational and time management skills. Strong attention to detail required.

Ability to work independently and in team settings and meet aggressive timelines; manage multiple projects simultaneously; and prepare oral and/or written presentations.

D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.:

None. PMP or Lean Six Sigma preferred.

E. Work Experience:

Minimum three (3) years experience in business, consulting, education, public health, program development, or project management, preferably in an academic medical center or major corporate institution. International experience is a plus. Clinical, nursing, social work, case management, research administration, or other technical health sector experience beneficial.

F. Machines, Tools, Equipment:

Computer, electronic mail, telephone systems, general office and communication equipment. Experience with project management applications desirable.

A. Budget Responsibility:

Fiscal awareness; makes appropriate recommendations regarding equipment, supplies, etc. Effectively utilizes resources within control and budget to maximize revenue opportunities while managing organizational and project/program related expenses.

B. Authority/Decision Making Level

Manages work independently or as part of a team/workgroup seeking direction from the appropriate supervisor or director. Arranges daily schedule to meet customer and project needs. Works within JHI decision-making hierarchy.

C. Supervisory Responsibility:

May delegate to others members of the project team or other colleagues within JHI as appropriate and required.

Problem Solving:

Ability to assess, plan and implement projects. Awareness of the need for timely communication; ability to identify potential barriers and strategies; and the ability to synthesize and integrate information.

Information Management:

Ability to input, manage, and extract data/information from databases to prepare written reports.

Working Conditions:

Works in a normal office environment where there are no physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc. Additional hours work may be required from time to time to accommodate client or project/program needs. Some travel required.
