Position Overview

At KIPP DC, we want to provide many opportunities for enrichment, both inside and outside of the school day. We also want to provide nurturing and safe spaces for students to be before and after school. The Associate Director of Shared Services and Enrichment will work with school leaders, staff, and outside partners to create opportunities for enrichment and before and after school care.

The Associate Director of Shared Services and Enrichment is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Family Engagement on the Community Engagement and Growth team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with school and network leaders: Enrichment and before and aftercare have many stakeholders in the KIPP DC community. The Associate Director will foster relationships in order to ensure the opportunities are meeting the needs of the stakeholders.
  • Support the Community Engagement and Growth Team: The Associate Director will be a key member of the Community Engagement and Growth Team as they partner with families and schools. The Associate Director will participate in team initiatives and projects, including responding to families and community members in support of building great schools.

Lead planning and implementation of before and aftercare programs for KIPP DC: The Associate Director will collaborate with school leaders and network leaders to plan for on-campus and off-campus options for KIPP DC students for before and after care needs, including:

  • Manage partnerships to ensure that ongoing programs are effective, seamlessly integrated into the workings of the schools, and sustainable, as well as broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs.

  • Ensure programs meet all licensing, contractual, and quality management standards and requirements from OSSE through having or developing deep knowledge of regulations around before and aftercare, including staffing ratios and other requirements. Collaborates with legal and compliance teams as necessary.

  • Ensure quality implementation of programs, including gathering feedback from families, students and school-based staff, and ensuring that the staffing plan the provider has filed with OSSE matches who is in the buildings at any time.

  • Develop an evaluation system with the school leaders to monitor the efficacy of each program.

  • Mediate disputes between partners and families or school community members.

Facilitate enrichment opportunities with partners: The Associate Director will engage external partners to provide enrichment opportunities in schools, including:

  • Manage partnerships to ensure that ongoing programs are effective, seamlessly integrated into the workings of the schools, and sustainable, as well as broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs.

  • Ensure quality implementation of programs, including gathering feedback from families, students, and school-based staff.

  • Mediate disputes between partners and families or school community members.

Manage budget and vendor relationships: For both before and after care as well as enrichment opportunities, the Associate Director will be responsible for ensuring thoughtful planning around contracts with partnerships, including:

  • Participating in the annual budgeting process with the finance team.

  • Meeting all requirements of KIPP DC and PCSB for the contracting process.

  • Ensuring vendors meet the expectations of their contract with KIPP DC.

  • Approving and ensuring all invoices are paid on time.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep passion for KIPP DC students, community organizing, and collaboration. The Associate Director will represent KIPP DC to people and organizations that affect the quality of students’ school experience internally and externally. In order to do this successfully, the Associate Director must demonstrate integrity, focus, diligence, and ability to communicate effectively and persuade others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 5-7 years of work experience, preferably in education or non-profit organizations.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed

  • Committment to advancing KIPP DC’s anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to take initiative, receive feedback, and seek out creative ideas

  • A proven track record of navigating complex issues, managing multiple stakeholders, making decisions, and driving strong results. The ability to work across teams and with diverse leaders is essential.
