The Brooklyn Book Festival (BKBF) is New York City’s largest, free literary festival. Each fall, it presents a robust week of literary programming that includes the Festival Day with more than 300 national and international authors and a diverse literary marketplace; a celebratory Children’s Day, and Bookends (literary special events) in all five boroughs. The Brooklyn Book Festival will take place as a live, hybrid, or virtual festival in 2021! BKBF is a small cultural non-profit seeking a part time Administrative Assistant to work with the Festival’s two co-producers.
Administrative Assistant Position:
The BKBF administrative assistant will work with the two co-producers as part of a small, collaborative and busy office. Responsibilities will vary depending on the time of the year but will include: actively assisting some of the Festival’s planning committees with meeting minutes and scheduling; creating and maintaining databases for book submissions; coordinating author/publicist communications, author schedules and hotel arrangements; updating the Festival website; and maintaining the donor database. This is a part-time position (20 hours a week – four five-hour days). Work sites include home offices in Brooklyn and a Festival office in Downtown Brooklyn, but will be guided by government health guidelines in 2021. Please note that the Festival is in the fall and therefore the summer is an especially busy time. The month of the Festival may require going to full-time hours and the Festival week is all hands on deck — full time plus.
Prior administrative assistant work experience (professional internships will be considered). Publishing industry experience and knowledge of contemporary authors are a plus, as well as other festival experience. Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational, written, verbal and interpersonal skills, as well as computer skills. Candidates should be able to work independently and yet have a pitch-in, team spirit. Experience with Microsoft Office, Dropbox and WordPress required. Airtable knowledge a plus. Position to start end of January 2021.
Salary: $22.00 per hour
