This position is “continuous recruitment” as vacancies are filled on an as-needed basis subject to the number of students who request subject-area tutoring assistance.
The work involves responsibility for tutoring students and performing related work as required. Academic Tutors I focus on the content of a course rather than on process skills. Academic Tutors I tutor may also have an opportunity for computer-based tutoring.
Tutor students who are experiencing difficulty in understanding and applying specific material/content in their college courses.
Ascertain course requirements and coordinate with the course instructors and departments.
Use computer assisted instruction with tutees.
Maintain up-to-date reports on each tutee.
Participate in periodic in-service training and staff meetings.
Maintain knowledge of materials available in the Learning Center keeping abreast of all new materials and software programs.
Cooperate in the organization and ongoing activities of the Learning Center.
Grade of B+ or higher in the course; subsequent higher-level coursework in the discipline; prior tutoring experience with individuals or small groups; excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
A positive faculty recommendation within the discipline and/or course for appointment is required.
